2) Joe Obrien has very valid points that have been repeatedly ignored by the City and County. (The City of Corpus Christi is habitually tardy filing their reports and the Crime Control District is being misused).
3) Corpus Christi PD needs a certified ballistics lab. (We will let Skip Noe and the Incumbent explain that one).

As a City Councilman; What can you do for the Taxpayers of Corpus Christi?

What will you do?
Oversight Watchdog Committee with Teeth?
One Committee Assignment per person, spread the formation of policy around.
As a runner up of City Councilman; What can you do for the Taxpayers of Corpus Christi?

Will Chad Magill still conduct his "meeting" on thursday?
or fade away like all the previous candidates who promise to "advocate for the
average citizen" but yet acts it only at election time?
Can a "contender" actually conduct himself the same or use defeat as an excuse?

here we come
"And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice
Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you're in control
Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me"

With election over, city faces multiple challenges
The short-term past is strewn with missed opportunities and disappointments; the winners must map out new strategies.

The buildup for Saturday's election was very slow, kind of like sumo wrestling. Nothing much happened for the longest time, then, suddenly, it was all over. Not surprising, the election didn't settle things completely. Voters must still make their choices in three district runoffs. But the low-turnout election did produce a City Council that will be long on experience, with some fresh enthusiasm.
With Mayor Henry Garrett running unopposed, attention was on the three at-large slots. Something of a surprise was that Nelda Martinez, who lost a race three years ago for state representative, was the top vote-getter, followed by Mike Hummel in second place. Incumbent Melody Cooper, who has served 12 years on the council, came in third.
In District 2, incumbent John Marez won a second term easily over Chad Magill. In District 3, incumbent Danny Noyola faces a runoff with Priscilla Leal. In District 4, Mike McCutchon came in first in a strong showing. He faces a runoff with James Duerr. In District 5, top vote-getter Larry Elizondo faces a runoff with Kendra Kinnison.
This election was held against the backdrop of last November's vote on the pedestrian beach on Padre Island. That proposal, rejected by the voters, would have opened the way for a multibillion-dollar resort, which would have provided a tremendous economic boost for this area. That defeat was followed by another letdown. TRT withdrew its proposal to build a bayfront entertainment complex. Those events colored the campaigns of many of the candidates. And they could have a continuing impact on what course the new council takes.
That course should be clear. Corpus Christi needs an injection of jobs and dollars. This is far more important than who sits on the City Council. The new council will have no choice but to decide how the city will deal with economic development. That presents Mayor Garrett with a challenge to his leadership. The mayor commands the bully pulpit. That means that his leadership will be critical in the wake of yesterday's election since it followed what can be called a debate on what place economic development will have in Corpus Christi's future.
The election winners have been given too great a responsibility to allow the past to become the prologue to the future. Too many families need jobs. Too many local businesses need an economic boost. And too many opportunities have already been lost. We cannot afford another major setback.
Each council member will bring his or her own approach to economic development. But the debate should be framed around how we can make it happen, not whether it should happen. The deplorable turnout of 11.8 percent offers no mandate for the anti-growth faction (they wouldn't call themselves that), though they will surely claim several of the winning candidates as their own.
